WINGS & Geese

What do they have in common?

The following nature story illustrates the WINGS prayer fellowship in a beautiful way.

Geese heading south for the winter fly in a vee-formation. Scientists have determined that as each bird flaps its wings, it uplifts the bird immediately following. By flying in a vee-formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

WINGS members quickly discover that their “praying power” is greatly increased with the lift from a circle of caring moms!

WINGS members learn how to “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law (to love one another as he loves us) of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.

WINGS members discover that it’s “OK to ask for prayer” and to depend on one another. God never intended for us to fly solo.

When the lead goose gets tired, she moves back in the formation, and another goose flies point. This teaches us to be teachable and to permit leadership from others in our lives.

Lastly, the geese flying in the back of the formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up the speed

WINGS members “Comfort each other and build each other up” (I Thessalonians 5:11a). – It’s OK not to be superwoman all the time!
